Not necessarily, if your Equinox is not Full Time AWD. I would have all 4 tires inspected for condition and tread depth to see how much life all 4 have left. If the back 2 have good % of tread left and front ones are worn, replace the fronts with the same tread design/same tire as rears. Assuming all 4 tires are the same size, have them rotated at regular intervals. Did the local tire place suggest replacing all 4..and if so, WHY?

They said it could mess the transmission up and/or awd up plus more.. What do you think the raddle is?? Its when I go over bumps.

2006....rattle (or raddle, like paddle)...when you go over bumps...due to the age of the vehicle 2006 ain't that old, but mileage wise...you haven't disclosed, but what I'm thinking is that the constant velocity joints (CV joints) are starting to wonkel-loose a bit, noticeable mostly when turning? but (the transmission?) what are they tryin' to sell you a transmission?....get away from that shop and never come back there...go with mechanics who are on the level and will save the parts for you (so you can see what failed)~ honestly would shimmy under there and poke at the CV joint boots with a dull phillips screwdriver to see if we've lost some of the poisonous grease thru splits in the boots~...would start sounding like a helicopter before too long....here's my off the cuff diagnosis for my good friend RacerX...thanks for trustin' in the judge there....much speculation....just have to think what goes round and round....tires...no way...you may as well complain about basketball sneakers making the game nasty and unbearable~ that one is simply contact with the ground and generally isn't noisy unless is has a SNOW-tire face or "MUD-Gripping" farmer's field tires~....mess up the transmission...are they out of their mind?...don't go there anymore...leave them think their misconceptions...don't go there....will send the message~

Could be CV joints, maybe, no dispute. But a rattle could be anything from a loose muffler/tailpipe hanger to motor mounts, difficult to say. Any chance you can take a video with audio? Get somebody to 'catch' you driving it when it makes the noise, the rattle? That would really help us. And as for tires, they only want to get in your wallet. Unless your tires are different profile, they will be fine. Or brand new knobby~type and nearly bald mix is not good for your transmission, to be sure, but a new set of all four is not going to stop a 'rattle'. How about even a still picture of your tires? The proverbial thousand words...

PS listen to the Judge....go to a reputable shop..a busy one...the busy shops don't need to lie to you to get you to sign off on work that you don't need. And a tire shop where the salesmen don't work on commission

Im having the same problem with my 05 Equinox. A rattling noise by front driver tire every time i hit a bump. It only has 117xxx miles on it. I was told it has something to do with some brackets but im not sure what they are called so im trying to find some answers before i take it in and get ripped off.
