2001 Subaru outback

My 2001 Subaru outback just died
at a stop light, then it wouldnt let
me turn my key all the way off &
out. So I had to ask someone for a
jump while a police officer blocked
the lanes for me. The jump started
my car but 7 seconds later it started
dieing slowly enough to make it to a
parking lot. She is still out of
commission at the moment.

This has happened like 3 times,
then it was working for a while, but
then I found myself stuck in the
road trying to jump my car again,
then it was fine for a while, then it
was dieing for a short few days.

I just want my subi to be reliable
again for me n my son. I love driving  
my Subaru & would be sad to have
to call it quits. Does anyone have
any idea what could be going on my
my car?

I also am unsure on the base trim of
my subi

Yup. If the battery and alt are fine and you experience stalling upon stopping then your CVT is shot (ouch!), and would require about $1.5k to source and install a used one.

You said this intermittent issue happens, then works for a while. What is happening when you turn the key (ignition)? Is it not "turning over" (starting the engine). This was happening to my 2010 Outback in the last 30 days, very frustrating. Finally I was able to drive to the AutoZone & the code was fresh (in Outback computer) & pulled up: Error Code P0335 is described as Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Malfunction. This means the vehicle’s ECM (Electronic Control Module) has not yet detected the crankshaft position sensor during the first second of cranking of the engine. I paid approx. 360 USD (parts and labor) for a new Crankshaft Position Sensor at the Subaru dealership. That was one week ago & so far all is good.
