Why does 2002 Outback make jet engine or roaring noise over when pressing gas pedal

Asked by greenfish May 09, 2014 at 08:59 AM about the 2002 Subaru Outback Base Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Outback, 155000 miles, runs great except for load roaring noise when pressing gas pedal, usually starts when going over 35 mph.  Sounds like coming from engine, but have been told might be wheel bearings??  HELP....really annoying.

Sounds like it may be your "U" joints especially since it occurs around 35 mph. I'll bet you don't hear anything below 20 mph. Had an old American car with this problem that was RWD. Good luck.
