loss of steering

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone else lost the ability to steer? My car wouldn't turn and the steering wheel just spun around.

you either need an intermidate shaft on of you wheel to the steering rack. or the single pinch bolt for the steering shaft came undone. took at the base of the steering shaft near the fire wall the shaft may have come unbloted. it should be a 15 millimeter bolt. hopefully u didnt turn the wheel to much because it might have damaged the air bag ignitor.

Has your car been in an accident that caused the airbags to deploy? It sounds like when the steering wheel/airbags were re-installed, the steering wheel was not properly torqued, and after time, the nut worked its way loose. Or it could be an issue with your steering column/shaft. a pin in the pinion gear could have sheared causing the gear to spin freely on the shaft.
