What would an average Mechanic charge for
replacing a timing chain on a 2005 toyota 4runner?

2005 4.0 v6 timing chain "kit" $250 total for parts. These engines are NOT liked by Toyota fans... $2500 is like saying don't bother me go away! Very expensive.

Their replacement engines are also pricey. You might be looking at 5K for a replacement engine depending on mileage. I don't know what mileage you have on yours, but if it's not outrageous, it might still be the better value to replace timing than whole engine.
