how reliable is the V6 motor?

I am considering purchasing a 1991 Camry LE wagon with 161,000 miles. It has the V6. I have been told to stay away from the V6 for massive reliability problems. Is this common, or true?

Well atarr, Camrys are generally renown for their overall relibability and I have personally taken my 1997 to 217K with very few issues and even fewer drive train issues (that I didn't cause) However, autos.msn gave the 1991 Camry it's lowest rating for engine reliability stating "Common problems on this vehicle are failures of the Ignition Coil and the Cold Start Injector Time Switch. Failure of the Ignition Coil will prevent the vehicle from starting.The cost to repair the Ignition Coil is estimated at $60.00 for parts and $110.50 for labor.The cost to repair the Cold Start Injector Time Switch is estimated at $120.00 for parts and $58.50 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.".
