Driving habits, attitude, environment, terrain and the size of your foot all have something to do with your fuel consumption. If all is well I would take it into your trusted mechanic for a tune-up. Make sure you tell them about your lowsy mileage. They might be able to pin-point the problem for you.

my brother works for A large Toyoa dealer here. He mentioned to me that the 4 cyl Camry's do not get "good" fuel mileage. The camry is a "large" car and wieghs a bit (3000 lbs+). because of the weight the 4cly have to work harder. You posted that is a wagon. Do you haul anything in the back? with the larger cars it is (most) times better to get the 6cly (wagon) with the heavier cars. This is common for the 4cly to burn a ton of fuel. The only thing that I can recommend is to sell it and get one with a 6cly. As you said your mechanic has not been able to nothing, I wonder what tests he has done? Have you had you fuel regulator tested? other than that there really not much more I can say. Unfortunely your wagon is really just to "heavy" for the 4cly. If you can post what your mechanic has done I can forward it to my brother and see what he says. Cheers

I have a 1996 manual Camry. I have been consistently getting 31 to 32 mph ! Yes it is a bit slow getting onto the highway. I have learned to wait until the "big guys" drive by before pulling onto the ramps. But with this MPG I am delaying getting a new car ~ I think my mechanic is great!!!!!!!!
