Gas fumes

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had mechanics repair a CV joint on the drivers side.  When I test drove the
car, I smelled fumes from the ignition, later on gas fums dominater the car.  
Is there a relationship between the repair of the CV joint and the fuel lines?  
IF SO, WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP?  Could some mechanic interferred
with the fuel lines, and did not replace them properly?  Did the fuel lines
need to be removed in order to replace the CV joint?
