Will 5 qts of oil in my 2.2L engine cause damage?

you should probably drain out some oil to get it at the proper level if it's more than 1/2 quart above

Your engine probably takes 4.5 quarts so no worries.

Anything 1 quart overfilled or less, I wouldn't worry about. I always put 5 quarts in the 4.5 quart engines so that I wouldn't have half a quart of oil taking up space in my garage.
