the brakes on my 2004 Camry squeek. The dealership has replaced both front and back brakes.

Asked by wbb57 Sep 15, 2008 at 03:42 PM about the 2004 Toyota Camry LE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The service dept manager says it must be "driver error"...My husband also drives the car so I guess it is both of us!  I even took the car to another brake shop and they replaced the front brakes and we still have the squeek.

I wonder if there is a problem with the rotors and/or if they applied anti-squeal goo on the back of the pads during installation.

Important question to ask next time... 'What type of pads did you install?" A brand and model of the pads would be best, but any info will help Ask them and reply back

Your car was designed for organic brake pads. if they put on semi-metallic pads, you would get brake noise no matter how much anti-squeal lube you put on. Since manufacturers switched to ceramics a couple years ago, finding a set of organic brake pads is next to impossible. I would have them put ceramic brake pads on. This will solve your problem. Common complaint. The service dept manager does not want to bite the bullet and pay to correct their mistake. Any good mechanic is aware of this issue with Toyota.

I am having this same problem with my 2004 toyota camry. Good to know what could be the problem. Will certainly try the ceramic pads.
