05 cavalier ls sport ecotech canks but wont start

Hello my name is jim my wife has a 05 cavalier ls 2.2 she drove the car all day
yesterday with no issues came out this morning to start it and it just turns over
ut wont start i can hear the fuelfump prime and smell gas when im cranking it.
I pulled spark plugs and checked for spark and it has spark thought it might be
the starter spining but not engaging but crank turns with starter I dont have a
compression gauge my next step is to buy one  but was wondeing if anyone
had experienced this before

After diagnosing it does have fuel to the rail it is getting spark and i can hear the injectors pulsing with screwdrive trick i put compression auge onit and no compression i determind the timing chain skipped some teeth now i know its an interfierence motor my questin now is do you think it bent valves eventhough it went bad on startup and never mad a binding noise at all just cranks like the plugs are pulled smooth
