Cold air intake or just new filter?

Asked by Demi Nov 06, 2016 at 04:57 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt.. 2.2L engine.. almost 180,000
miles. I am trying to keep the car as long as I can. So
should I buy a $290 cold air intake from K&N OR just
leave my air filter system alone and just buy a new filter
which would only be like $40. Price ain't an issue, just
wanna know which would prolong the life of my car.

I would go with just the filter. You will never notice the extra 2 or so hp with the cold air intake.

My Ford truck operates in severely dusty areas and I use K&N. I never have had an issue with oil contaminating the MAF.
