Intermittent failure to start, fuel pressure craziness

Asked by Almostblownup3x May 15, 2016 at 08:38 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had a chronic rough start condition, found that with the key off fuel
pressure dropped to zero rapidly.  added an in-line check valve and ever
since have intermittent failure to start, even after replacing the whole pump.
wiring connector is supposedly o.k.  Now, hooked up a FP guage and left it
connected.  car starts, runs great, but park it for 2 to 30 minutes and it
won't start. found that pressure RISES when parked warm despite the key
and the FP relay being in my pocket. Guage only reads to 100 psi but
pressure is much higher.  loosening the connection at the test rail and
burping off some of the pressure allows the car to start easily.

Remove the "added in-line check valve" and it will run correctly. The OEM fuel pump has its own check valve built into it. I see a lot of them drop off rapidly... when keyed off.. but still start Ok try this before replacing your fuel pump.

When you have rapid gas pressure fall it generally means you have a injector that is stuck open bleeding gasolione into the engine which makes it hard to start and sometimes caused a hydrostatic lock up as there fuel not vapor in the cylinder. If this is a Vortec engine pressure should be 60-66
