Should a 1990 Toyota tercel have a side mirror on the passengers side of the car?

No offense to Bovan, but his answer is not entirely correct. Passenger-side, rear-view mirrors are not required by federal safety standards, although they are standard equipment on almost all cars sold today. For most passenger cars, the area covered by the passenger-side mirror largely duplicates what can already be seen in the center rear-view mirror. The small blind spot on the right that is not covered by the main rear-view mirror is better assessed by the driver looking directly back and to the right rather than using the side mirror alone. The passenger-side mirror is therefore basically redundant and should not be considered a crucial safety feature. For many economy cars sold in the 80s and early 90s (including the Tercel) the passenger side mirror was optional. Whether 1990 Tercel in question never had a passenger side mirror, or even if it broke off, it should not be considered necessary to replace it for either safety or state-inspection reasons.
