Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A cylinder in the motor is down. How
serious is that problem? How could it be
fixed? Would it be expensive? It’s my truck
still safe to drive?

Some engines can actually switch off cylinders, but yours won't run efficiently like those engines. If you haven't already, make sure fuel injector is unplugged, or you'll be dumping raw fuel into exhaust, or contaminating other cylinders causing severe knocking. You really want to diagnose why a cylinder is down, or problem can get worse and more expensive, especially if there's knocking.

Did a shop rebuild the motor? Take it back and ask them to look over their work.

Angela, these engines (I6) regularly get 200k-300k miles on them easy. I'd go back to the shop that rebuilt the engine, something isn't right.
