as stated above, the gauge will go from about 50psi at running speed down to
about 40ish and does at times pop down t about 20-30ish. the gauge is NOT
smooth in operation but jerky. no oil lose, no engine noises (ticking sounds).
started about a couple weeks ago. maybe oil pressure sending unit getting
ready to die?

It does sound like that, I would also flush the engine oil and use a cleaner, could be a small clog in oil pump as well...
I myself are not a fan of flushing an engine. Some cleaners are fast acting and dislodge chunks of build up and plug oil passages, causing more grief. The key is to keep up with the oil changes. I would just replace the oil pressure sending unit, it is possible the one on the engine has gone bad.

Oil is changed every 3000 miles religiously. I am going to change the sending unit this weekend. I talk with a few guys at work in the Bus maint, shop and they all said that the sending unit is famous for what I described. Will let ya guys know next week after I chenge it out. Thanks
