what is causing car engine to shut off

my 2004 chevy mailbu had been showing the gas gage misreading, then on the way home the car shut off completely, it restarted with boosting only to run a minute or so then engine would shut off again; the battery was tested and is still good.  what could the issue be?

I agree with the alternator, just because the car systems run off of the alternator. Also consider have the fuel system checked, fuel pump, fuel filter, line and fittings. Make sure your are getting full fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel.
