Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 1991 300e 4matic and when i turn my lights on, the only lights i get
are the headlights. brake lights and turn signals work when engaged, but
no back lighting on switches or dash. idiot lights work but nothing else. all
fuses are in good repair(no broken connections) put a test light on a few
months ago when problem started(right rear light panel) showed good
circuitry but now just the little i have.

Confirm all rear lights are Ok, None burnt including the license illumination bulbs. If you have a multimeter check for 12volts at light sockets when each light circuit is activated, i.e Brake lights with pedal depressed.

all bulbs are good. do not have multimeter, but will check asap. if getting proper voltage and still no lights what would the issue be? to the best of your knowledge.

Try removing the vehicles cluster and inspecting the wired circuits molded into the back of it. Likely it has been burned creating an (open) see where and IF? It has burned in two and prevents voltage from getting to the rheostat. If necessary create a jumper to allow the circuit to conduct current. This will also allow you to check the instrumentation lights in addition to cleaning them...the rheostat can be checked too, once again a multimeter is a necessity when correcting electrical issues Do all interior lights function? center counsel lighting?
