2002 f[-250 starter will not engage with key but will with screwdriver jumping across solenoid wires please help

if your talking the heavy solenoid battery wires , your jumping over its the solenoid , if connecting hot to the small wire terminal on the solenoid does the trick , then you have a connection break from the ignition to the solenoid , Or the starter is so worn it takes a heavy draw to light up the solenoid, hammer on the starter to settle brushes and try, with key switch if works its the worn starter brushes

Have a 2002 Ford F-250 battery is good but when you turn key over it won’t do anything
