is there another model of car heater fan you can use to replace one in a chevy malibu

If your an electrical engineer you may be able to figure out the current draw put on a chevy resistor pack when you change fan speeds or ... surprise, surprise the new fan won't fit .. or even the different color leads that go to the fan control. Sure you can use another model
Even the counter person at a scrap yard would be hard-pressed to tell you which blower motors are cross compatible. Is there a reason for using another models blower fan versus one from your make/model? They're not that expensive even new. There must be a ton of Chevy Malibus in your local salvage yard.

The GM AcDelco part number for this fan is 1580462, and is found on the following car models: CHEVROLET CLASSIC (2004 - 2005) CHEVROLET MALIBU (1997 - 2003) OLDSMOBILE ALERO (1999 - 2004) OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS (1997 - 1999) PONTIAC GRAND AM (1999 - 2005) Any aftermarket equivalent, for this part number should be fine. Always check with your parts supplier to be sure. One question, ..... will the fan run on hi speed? If it dose, you most likely need a new blower resistor. But a blower fan that is failing, and drawing to much electrical current, can take out the resistor. you should find out if any power is getting to the fan, and work your way back from there. I'm assuming you checked the fuses? There is one in the right side, instrument panel, fuse block, marked HVAC BLOWER FUSE C, (20 amp fuse). If this fails, the blower will not function, on any speed setting.
