Asked by Jake Jan 10, 2016 at 08:45 PM about the 1994 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Train-like Chugging noise behind harmonic
balancer, noise gets louder when clutch is
pushed in at idle. Cannot hear noise while
driving

The noise sounds like a grinding and I can feel tapping when pushing in clutch, sounds somewhere near timing chain, so changing the balancer would fix this?

Are shure the noise is coming from then front, cause if it's only when you press the clutch, it should be in the rear of engine, if it is, then it's the clutch bearing

I recently noticed that the clutch has become harder to push in and feels rough while pushing; the noise increases when clutch is down but engine sounds like it's struggling to idle, when clutch it is in it feels like there's small taps that sound like a card in the spokes of a bike tire
