2001 f150 3202426 miles

Asked by Ford_dude1983 Jan 23, 2020 at 06:48 PM about the 2001 Ford F-150 Lariat Crew Cab 4WD SB

Question type: General

My Ford f150 has lasted me a long time with
good care, it has over 320xxx miles on it and
still runs good but is leaking oil in several
places.  Thinking of rebuilding it  when it
lays down... Now with that many miles
would it be a good idea to rebuild it
considering the heads, block..ECT have that
many miles or get another motor put in?

I would get an upgraded truck. Everything on that truck has 320,000 miles on it unless something has been repaired and replaced. It may become a money pit.

Alot has been replaced on it, the whole suspension, ball joints, shocks, tie rods ..etc have all been replaced The transmission was rebuilt about 5 years ago and is good. I would know motor is good for awhile if it would rebuild good.

It would be cheaper to install a new remanufactured engine vs having it rebuilt. Labor costs are high and most shops rebuild engines in their spare time. Do you have something else you can drive while the truck is in the shop?

Depends on it is a keeper. My 02 F150 has 215,000 on it and I might rebuild the motor as I use it for snowplowing.

Do any of your guys fully trust remanufactured engines? I am not sure I do. They do all sorts of half baked things like mixed piston sizes where they only bore the worst cylinders and other flaky things like that. There are reasons why they are cheaper....................

Our Ford stuff remanufactured by AER has been really good. 3 year unlimited miles on gasoline engines warranty is a big plus.
