Count your shifts. If one of the solenoids go out it results in no 1st or 4th gear. You will start in 2nd and only get 3rd after. Don't confuse the torque converter locking up as a shift. You will feel that above 45 mph at light throttle.

I have a 02 S10 that was sitting for close to 2 and half years, i took it to get the transmission rebuilt because it was bad. But now im having the problem that the struck starts off in third and wont change gears. ive heard its in limp mode. the mechanic that rebuild the transmission said it is the key switch assembly! But i dont want to just spend money on random parts and that not be the issue. Any help? could he be right about the switch?
