Replace Head Gasket or Drop new Engine?

Asked by Dutchiee May 15, 2015 at 02:14 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck's in good condition. Never had a
problem with it or previous owner besides a
new clutch installed because of a new
driver learning stick. The head gasket blew
out on me yesterday. I was considering
dropping a new or used v6 engine into the
truck in the future. I have an in line 4 at the
moment. But since the head gasket blew
out I know that the work is going to cost a
lot for the mechanic. I wouldn't mind doing
the work myself but I'm no car expert.
Should I just invest in dropping a new
engine and computer. and maybe a new
transmission. Or should I just pay for the
head gasket replacement? Truck is in good
condition nothing is wrong with it from my
standpoint. Again I'm no car expert but I
could use some expert advice asap!

I can supply more info if needed.
