Why do I have to turn on the interior light to start the motor?

Asked by BlazerBoy16 Aug 10, 2015 at 04:19 PM about the 1991 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4 Dr STD 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When you put the key in the ignition
switch and turn it, the dashboard
comes on but the motor won't turn
over. When you turn on the interior
light, it starts normally.

Two reasons... 1. Designed in as an anti-theft feature. My 1997 and 2003 Corolla you had to pull the high beam lever while turning the key to allow it to start. 2. Mis-wired... though not very likely.

The vehicle was passed down from my grandpa to me and he said that it hasn't always done that. Do you have anymore suggestions?
