Vehicle continuesly overheating

Asked by Karen Feb 09, 2020 at 01:47 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Lumina Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just replaced oil seal, water pump, and
thermostat yet the car is still overheating.
Checked hoses, and the head gasket and block
are still good. Not leaking fluid but eventually
end up with the radiator low on fluid. Any
suggestions on what the problem could be?

You may have a worn timing chain. Does the vehicle lack power? That's another system of a worn timing chain. Also, the ignition timing could be severely retarded (late) due to a valve tap or other engine noise that the knock sensor is picking up. Or there could be a problem with the knock sensor or knock sensor circuit. If any of these are going on the engine will most likely heat soak after you shut it off and the coolant will boil over. Hope that helps! Jim
