Overheating problem

Asked by mkeathley69 Jun 26, 2016 at 05:14 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car overheated, wouldnt cool down after adding water and turning heater on.  Stalled, then wouldn't start. Had it towed home, didnt mess with it at all. Tried to start three weeks later(it started). Turned off immediately. Today I checked oil to see if milky or if water in it(no bubbles or water in oil). I cant afford to take to shop. What do I do from here to see what will get it safely back on road even if for temporary? Havent tried to drive it at all. Only started it that one time. Desperately need to have running car for short trips.

I have a 98 Chevy lumina LS it did the same thing overheated stalled then wouldn't start. After it cooled down it started. but overheated. I changed the thermostat. Still overheating. Next I will bleed the coolant system using the bleeder valve on the water pump and thermostat housing that doesn't fix next I will replace the water pump.
