my 1997 dodge ram 1500 will not shit into fourth gear or over drive

It could be low fluid. It could need service. It could be low voltage. It could be the ECU. Do you have any trouble lights?

yea my 97 ram with 318 does the same just go it rebuilt by professional.shifts fine all the way to third but goining to high speed wont go into 4th gear..??

I have a 1997 ram 1500 that wouldn't shift into overdrive. It was the dumbest thing ever that fixed it. The low battery ambient temp sensor in the battery box was disconnected. I hooked it up and it's been shifting fine ever since
