Question type: Maintenance & Repair

97 dodge ram I think transfer
case is shot . Can I remove it
all together and get a longer
drive shaft to be able to drive
the truck

not without buying a 2 wheel drive overdrive section. the 4x4 has a short overdrive housing to allow for the t-case best bet take t-case off open up and gut everything except mainshaft and planet leave the forks inside to keep selecter in proper gear range and eliminate the chain and pull front drive line out but not in the tcase area just the chain. the main shaft drives the oil pump you have to have it.or go get a 2 wheel drive (overdrive section) and swap out for 4x4 housing but getting the parking pawl restabbed can be a real biotch
