I have a1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4. After getting stuck in a mud hole it has started slipping,OD light on and Trans Temp. What do I do

Asked by joelehickman Jul 21, 2015 at 06:42 AM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Please read all. After getting stuck in a puddle with water that came into floorboards,
My Electrical system started acting funny. My radio would come on without key and
the fuse box on side of dash would make a flicker noise. After 2 days from getting
stuck the transmission started to slip and shift weird along with the OD light and Trans
Temp light coming on. I dropped the pan and let the transmission fluid drain but i did
not get a flush done. Now it will drive for about a mile and slip. The shifting seems ok
but after I let sit for 2-3 minutes I can start vehicle back up and drive another mile or
so before it starts to slip again. .....I spoke to a shop and off the rip they said
Rebuild...I spoke to some other guys and they said it could be some sensors or the
solenoids.....What to do? do i spend a little bit of money and get a flush with new
solenoids? Or do i get a rebuild transmission? Or do i get a used transmission and
plug it in? Thank you very much for any help. Please respond here or email me

That must have been a big mud hole- if water got inside the cab, it can ruin the electronics- if water gets inside a tranny, it can ruin that, too- cars and water don't mix- and the nation is being flooded (pun intended) with cars that have been driven through floodwaters and are now ruined, written off as total losses by the insurance agencies- then put back together by unscrupulous mechanics- with your truck, maybe it can be fixed, it depends how deep that mud hole was- but you may be facing a total mess- a useless truck-
