Overdrive housing won’t fit all the way on

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l v8 automatic
and I’m changing the overdrive housing on tranny
and The new one I’m putting on is from a 2500 and
it will slide on but stops like and inch from where it
connects. It feels like there’s a obstruction but
nothing inside so maybe it’s catching, I saw that the
2500 should fit it so I don’t think it’s that plus both
overdrive housings look at exact same.
