Taking off you give it gas it revs but won't shift unless you let off the gas for a few seconds. Shifts through the rest of the gears fine. Over 50mph the rpm will shoot up...

Til you let off the gas a little. It did get
another used rear-end put in right before I
bought the truck. What could the problem
be and how to fix it?

sounds like your transmission linkage is out of adjustment, you would need to look up the specifications for it, i would recommend getting a repair manual so you can follow the steps needed to adjust it or replace linkage
