2002 dodge ram 1500 5.9L gas

Asked by Omar Dec 30, 2016 at 01:58 PM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

everytime I would come to an idle the oil pressure would go to 0. for a little while tapping on the gas pedal was all it took to solve the problem, that is until the engine started nocking after driving it for just a few minutes. I took it to a recommended shop in town to have the mechanical problem diagnosed (97$) and gave me a list of all that needed done to it. my father inlaw and I did all the work in his shop (replaced the oil pump, feeding tube, oil filter and OP censor, all new oil and sparkplugs). anyway after hours of work we started the truck, started like a dream!!! drove it down the road and as soon as I came to a complete stop it started nocking AGAIN!!!   turned around and on the way back to the shop the oil pressure once again kept coming and going.

what could that possibly be?

Is there a knock sensor if its bad it will adjust the timing to any position it can to over come some issue which could be something else bad like another sensor or computer ecm module, so it may be working but may not be getting the correct reading from the others needed to make it work correctly.
