Asked by John Dec 24, 2015 at 07:39 AM about the 2003 Dodge RAM 1500 ST LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003/dodge ram 1500 2wl drive 3.7L has
144,000 miles I just got the truck an the
transmission it slips when going from 1st-3rd gear
an if I press the gas hard it Reeves up an it won't
shift it acts like its in neutral an I have to baby it
when I'm driving so it will shift. An I got the
computer tool at O'Rileys an it showed that my
transmission has 1st gear incorrect gear ratio
same with 2nd an 3rd gear an over drive incorrect
gear ratio showed up an I'm wondering do I need a
new transmission or could it be a simple fix like a
sensor or transmission filter an when I turn my
windshield wipers on an then turn them off the
wipers stop in the middle of the windshield how do
I fix that an the hearter works but then out of the
blue the heater won't work an then in about 4 hrs
the heater will start working just fine again for a
few days an the truck has trouble going up hills an
when I'm driving on the high way the truck will slow
down at some points an when I try to speed up the
truck over Reeves like it goes into neutral the I
release of the gas an then the truck in gages an I
am slowly able to gain the speed back that I lost
while driving please an thank you for the help in
advance

Does sound like the trany is gone. If you had a shift problem that could be corrected, it still would not be slipping so bad in all those gears. You could go to a trany shop and get an opinion that they should be happy to give, looking for new business in all. If you have the code numbers, they also should be able to tell you if it need rebuilding, or could be corrected.
