Ok, I was guessing. I really should not have attempted an answer, knowing very little about this engine and deferred to somebody that does. But I did find this: This engine uses TWO DIFFERENT types of spark plugs. A total of 16 plugs are used. The plugs are mounted in two rows (banks). The upper row is used on the intake valve side of the cylinder head. The lower row is used on the exhaust valve side of the cylinder head. The upper row uses Bosch Nickel Yttrium plugs. The lower row uses Bosch Iridium plugs. DO NOT INTERCHANGE THESE PLUGS.

I am NOT arguing with you. On the contrary-- I am looking for an education. Been reading up for a few, and how can they fire at different times? there is one coil on the upper row, on-plug, with a wire going to other plug. I don't get it

Oohhh....I found it. My lesson today. Spark plug/coil wire harness assembly. When the plugs fire after compression for the cylinder on the power stroke, the companion cylinder on the opposite bank fires during the exhaust stroke, requiring only eight ignition coils to fire all 16 spark plugs.

I have a 98 dodge 318 auto and whant to put a standard in it from a nuther truck can it be done if same mortar but trans is different

Yes. The wire goes to the 'companion' plug on the other bank for the extra exhaust spark see this page: ...................................... http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/2012/08/01/2005-dodge-charger-lx-5-7l-v-8-engine-firing-order-and-battery-cable-routing/

And this has more: a lot of guys switch them around to get them to BOTH fire on compression/power stroke. Say the run better, but when it comes inspection/emissions test time, better not be that way...... http://www.thehemi.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1077

I'm still at it, trying to be sure. They call them "shortie wires" to go to other plug in same cylinder and eliminate the 'rat's nest' of 8 wires cris-crossing the engine. Some of them swear by it, say it improves low-end torque, but high rpm HP not so much. ................................ http://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-ram-tech/266449-whats-the-purpose-of-the-2nd-plug-in-the-hemi.html
