Question type: Maintenance & Repair

In the mornings when I crank my truck it almost
sounds like a valve knocking or something but then
it quietens up about after 10 minutes of warming
up I've checked the oil I keep it changed when it
needs changed so I got oil in it I'm trying to figure
out why it sounds like that when I first crank it up
because I know it eventually get worse

Make sure you have an anti drain back oil filter on it and you are using the correct weight and type of engine oil. As the sound goes away after a bit this is most likely a failing lifter. So if you have to tear into it, replace them all.

Most K&N filters have an anti drain back valve built in. Get your filter number then check the K&N website too see if it has one just to be sure.
