replaced the heads and head gaskets on my dodge 1500 2005 5.7 liter quad cab 4x4. Put the engine back together and now it wont run unless I step on the gas and keep RPM's up.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After the engine was put back together it wont stay running. Replaced oxygen sensors and throttle body and egr
valve. When we were putting the rods back in on the left side we mirrored the rods so it started with long then
short. So we guessed cause when we pulled the head off we lost the rods out the bottom. So wonder if thats my
idle problem cause rods are not in right .

Could be many different reasons that the engine wont stay running. Rod misplacement is not a good thing, but shouldn't stop the engine from running. Does it run smooth if you hold some throttle to it? Do you hear any hissing noises? Is it backfiring at all? Is there an engine error code?

K we just took engine on my dodge 1500 5.7 hemi truck apart again and checked the connections and rods and cleaned the intake manafold again. And all looked to be fine. Still caint get it to idle. Reset the engine codes and now reads nothing wrong. But it still wont idle right. One code read multiple misfires. Checked the book and the print out i got from the dodge dealer and alldatadiy.com to see my plug connections and all were good. So now we know that the throttle body isnt opening up all the way to keep it idle. So vaccum leak on the intake manifoldor im still thinking idle control valve. But i asked the dodge dealer they told me on my dodge the idle control valve is part of the throttle body I replaced. So do I have a idle control or not. If any body has the answer it would be nice. Allsata says i do but i found a picture then it says i dont have one . Lol now im confused.
