Could be a bad sending unit (level sensor) in the tank or maybe the float detached itself from the arm. Unfortunately to check this, it's all part of the fuel pump assembly and it requires dropping the tank. Check the connector and connection at the the sending unit at the top of the tank to verify good connection.

Hello, this is Jimmy with Jackson Automotive and Customs in Cleburne Texas. I recently bought a 02 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT with the same issue. I changed the Fuel Pump as the Dodge House recommended, then I tested the sending unit on the old fuel pump. It was bad. But there is always a cause that makes things quit working. I did a complete overlook on the dodge and realized that the ground wires were rusted. So I did the Big 3 on the truck (ground terminal to body, positive cable to alternator, and motor to body ground) with 1/0awg wire. This fixed my issue. Proper grounding is key to most electrical issues the vehicles. Check your Ground connections and remove and clean them up and replace them. Its a cheap fix. jackson.autoshop@gmail.com for any questions
