Asked by Guru9FZTLC Nov 18, 2022 at 07:02 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 2500 Laramie SLT Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

recently replaced the alternator & PCM, now the alternator wont charge and
the truck wants to start off in 3rd gear.  It can be shifted manually but only gets
up to 50mph.  Lost and dont know what else to do.  Have checked both the
alternator and PCM and both are good, batteries are good as well

1998 didn’t need any computer flash so it should have been plug and play. Was this a factory PCM or an aftermarket? If an aftermarket that maybe your problem right there, Chryslers do not like aftermarket modules, sensors and some generic rebuilt alternators.
