1998.5 Dodge Ram diesel wait to start light won’t come on the first time I turn the key to start.

Asked by Jboym1 Sep 06, 2018 at 03:49 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 2500 ST Club Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The first time I turn the key to start the wait to start light does not come on. And when I try to start truck it
won’t start. If I shut the key off and turn it back on the second time, the wait to start light comes on and the
truck starts right up. Anyone know why I had to try twice to start my truck?

I'm guessing your fuel pump is loading your system during the few seconds you are playing with the key. The pump runs about 20 seconds once it starts.
