Diesels are a bitch for a cold start. If you have a diesel there should be a wait to start light that stays on until ready to start. That light is controled by a little mini toaster inside your air intake that heats up everything. But it will probably take about 3-5 seconds, which I would rate normal. If it's taking longer check into your batterys, starter, injection pump.
