Possible Mass Air Flow sensor. Take it to a dealer have them check self-adaptation values. If you need one get it from a VW dealer or aftermarket. Much cheaper than MB.

First thing to do is get the engine codes read. If the check engine light comes on it means the engine computer has stored a fault code. which you will need to access to tell you what the problem is, or point you in the right direction. You'll need a code reader. it is a waste of time to start speculating until you get the engine codes read.
