my automatic shifter is stuck in drive on my 1998 c230

Car is stuck in drive shifter will not move to any other gear. therefore the car
will not start. How do I unstick the shifter?

If you have a console shifter you may need to take it apart to find the problem. Same goes for a column shifter.
