Did you select the AM/FM button to change it from CD to the radio ? If that doesn't do it I would say the radio needs replacement. Any chance the optional CD is overriding the radio ? Did you select the radio MUTE button on the steering wheel or dash accidentally ?
Mine did that. You know how you have to flip the screen down to insert the Nav CD? I flipped mine down and then back. Worked. Best of luck. Maybe this will work for you. If not, try a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for about 2 mins. Hook it back up.

To do a "Hard Reset" on your 2005 CLK500, turn on ignition, pull fuse #26, wait a bit and then push fuse back in. Turn off ignition, and then start the car. If amp isn't blown or fiber optic cable hasn't been jarred loose, the sound should come on.
