Same thing happened to my 02', the only way to override is to stick something long and thin in the hole before D. My problem was the brake pedal sensor, it was stuck in the engaged position. The part to fix it was $20. It's pretty easy to fix if you are handy with this kind of thing. You could have a worn down bushing in the shifter itself. They are often made of plastic and degrade over time. How many miles are on yours? Can you get the brake lights to come on?

THIS is why I always carry a screw driver in the car! same thing happened to me about a month or so ago, got stuck in a drive thru. When they said they'd have to tow me so I asked for a screw driver (didn't have one at the time) and I got the DUMBEST look from 3 men. Got it outta park in 2 seconds ..... handed 'em back the screw driver and said, "guess ya learned something new today." :)
