Oil in the Coolant (Radiator) CAR OVERHEATS

Asked by neoreundoer Mar 31, 2010 at 11:10 AM about the 2000 BMW Z3 2.3 Roadster RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car overheated and a foamy water/oil misture (mayonaise like) came out of the radiator overlow.  The shop diagnosed and replaced the head gasket and flushed the cooling system.  After 1000 miles, changed the oil and found some oil again in the coolant.  Shop said it would take time to get out all the oil.  WELL with very little use I have oil in the coolant again which causes a cooling/overheating problem.  There is no water in the engine oil.  Oil from the engine is getting into the cooling system.  The engine runs perfect  Easy starting and no missing.  ANY IDEAS WHERE THE OIL IS COMING FROM??????

Mate, Like your shop that did the repairs on your Beemer said, it will take a while to get rid of the mayo out of your cooling system. It is more than likely residual oil, and the mayo will get everywhere. It will be a warranty claim if the workshop didn't do a proper job anyway. Don't stress, Andrew

it will never fully be out.all the oil that was in your heater hoses, heater core or any place there was oil.ive done head jobs and repalced every hose and heater core, radiator, expasion tank and flushed 4 times and still was present.but never came back for engine problems just complaining of oil residue in coolant.so ya dont worry about it.
