How do I replace the reverse lights?

Having trouble getting to the left reverse light on my GTI. Do I have to take out the entire tail light? How does one do this? The other bulbs are easily accessible.
Thanks!

This link shows a DIY guide on how to get to the light: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2538830 Only follow the first few steps, because the last part shows how to change the color of the light your using. The site has images to show you what it looks like. This is for the 2006 GTI but it should be pretty much the same. Good luck.
I've tried that walk through and it is very different because it is for a 2006. I am having trouble locating the second nut to remove the taillight and replace the reverse bulb. At least I think that's how it's done. If they just made the carpet go a little lower I would have a good shot at the bulb. As it is the carpet covers that area forcing me to remove the entire taillight. Very frustrating indeed.
