how many hours does it take to change a flywheel on a 1999 chevy suburban 5.7 L Automatic trans.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have taken it to an Auto repair shop and they showed me where teeth on the flywheel are missing so I know I need to get the work done. One play told me it $530 for parts and labor another place told me its $550 just for labor, He said it takes 8 hour to deal with the trans. any thoughts?

KeIt only takes 2 to 3 hours to change a flywheel mine is a 1997 and I did mines on the ground without a lift to raise my truck up on.. If I had a lift about an hour and a half no more than 2 but shops make their money through taking their sweet time
Those prices seem spot on for R&R of the trans. The actual install of the flywheel is nothing. If you go to a trans shop maybe you can get a better deal but that is normally the going rate
I just was quoted 820 because of the 4x4

For me it would only take about 4 minutes. That's to get your information, and your keys. Then I would let my mechanics jump right on it. They will brake it down, and be done in an hour n half, maybe quicker then that. I will do it for $170 bucks. You gotta buy the part though
I know this is an old post, but where you at. Money_Maker? I'm sure labor rates have gone up but still!
I retired in 2013 after 44 years of auto repair and rebuild. It is hard to get two jobs that will take the same amount of time, worked with Ammco in Fayteville for one year as an installer, Be sure and get reference's before going for the cheaper price. There is always some one faster bur are they better?
