1995 VW Jetta Radiator Fan Diagnosis?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At normal operating temp the radiator cooling fan does not work.  Checked fuses, fusible link, and motor/thermostatic switch for security and cleanliness.  How would I jumper the thermostatic plug (while disconnected from the switch) to see if the fan will run?  How would I hot wire the fan motor directly to the battery?  Can I Ohm out the switch to see if the switch is bad?  Any other suggestions would be helpful.

If you've ohmed out the fuses and fusible link, the next logical failure mode is the thermoswitch in the radiator. It's not an expensive part, and if you have never swapped it...do it. Then, if the fan still doesn't work, replace it! I have successfully diagnosed a faulty thermoswitch by boiling it with wires soldered to the pins and connected to a meter...but by then, you're halfway to replacing it anyways as you've drained the durn radiator!
