96 VW Jetta Cranks but will not start

I have a 96 VW Jetta  2L 4sp that will crank fine but will not start. It will crank fine using the key in the start position but will not start. But if I jump the starter solenoid with the key in the on position the car will start right up.

CHECK IF YOU CRANK WITH KEY THAT THERE IS POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP AND COIL. WILL BE ONE OF THOSE
